The Ocean Reef full face mask is the finest we have ever used or sold. From our Desco mask of the 50's to this modern marvel of today is a jump over a multitude of hurdles! Purging the mask of water is quick and easy. Equalizing the ears is a cinch. Communications is loud and clear. Breathing is effortless. And, the fit is superb.
The hose (supplied) from the 1st stage of the regulator is identical to the one purchased with a regulator. The 2nd stage, attached to the front of the mask, is adjustable so the air flow rate is what the diver desires. In the middle picture (above) the black knob behind the LP entry hose allows the diver to breathe from the atmosphere while on the surface so the underwater air supply is not reduced. The communications unit is attached to the left side of the mask and is always in the listening mode until the easily found push-to-talk button is pressed.
The 2 round white silicone pieces inside the mask are for blocking the nostrils so the ears may be equalized upon descent. They are adjustable up and down, and may be brought closer to the nose. The air is introduced upon demand to the mask upward over the face plate so it stays clear and requires no defogging agent. There are 6 points for strap adjustment to keep the mask in place without discomfort. Even with the straps secure the mask is easily removed. The fully waterproof microphone is just to the left and below the diver's mouth.
The surface communications unit consists of a headset and attached microphone, the transceiver, and the 10-meter cable with the transducer on the end. The transceiver has a clip so it may be easily attached to the waist of the operator. The unit is in the receiving mode until the push-to-talk switch on the transceiver is pressed.
Donning the mask is simple. With the mask held to the face and the center of the straps placed below the scalp at the base of the neck, the 2 temple tabs are tightened. Then the lower to straps are tightened followed by the upper 2. The mask will be secure and if the surface air entry knob is closed the air will be drawn from the tank or surface umbilical hose. Communications will automatically be activated when the diver submerges.
